An Inside Look at Iron Construction's Sunnyvale HQ

The Silicon Valley construction firm just got fancy new digs, complete with a game area and a snazzy collaboration deck that overlooks the floor below. Bisnow caught up with the founders, who gave us a tour of the space.

Founders Claudia Folzman and Dave Edgar tell us the new office at 270 E Caribbean Dr stunned employees when they decided to convert an old and decrepit warehouse into a hip haven. The waiting in trailers outside was well worth it; now it's a 27k SF home base that encourages cooking, planting, petting cute pups and, of course, working. Fun fact: the company name (Fe) was derived by combining the first letter of the founders' surnames.

The office receptionist also is a cook by day—and night—and helps whip up some top-notch concoctions in its gigantic kitchen. In fact, they just tested out the gourmet dream at the first wedding hosted at the office.

For construction notes, there's an alternate to the typical white board (to avoid eraser marks). The team decided to use glass that wipes off in a flash. And there's also reclaimed wood throughout.

Dave's dog Red probably has the toughest job in the office (case closed). Claudia and Dave are also good friends with Napa and Sonoma owners, hence the wall of printed wineries in the distance.

Here's the newest addition to the office: a rad gym. In an effort to be green, bathrooms don't use disposable towels and resemble more of a spa, with scented soaps.

All lighting is controlled by outside light, based on super energy-efficient LED lighting. Claudia says there's a lot of daylight in the building even on a cloudy day in the winter. The company is ramping up its range of work, with projects from biotech office and TV station studios to even a hair salon.
