Bayfront Marriott Plans $107M Event Space Expansion

Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, a luxury hotel at 333 Harbor Dr in Downtown, will soon break ground on a $107M makeover and expansion. Owned by Host Hotels & Resorts, a global lodging REIT, and managed by Marriott, the hotel is adding new venues to its event space, bringing total meeting and event space to 280k SF.

This includes two 36k SF ballrooms stacked one on top of the other, with 25k SF foyers, each able to accommodate 3,700 people. The contemporary design by tvsdesign features a color scheme inspired by glimmering sand and sea with undulating wave patterns adorning the ceilings and "Tidal," a one-of-a-kind Swarovski crystal ceiling installation. Also in the plans are Marina Terrace, which can accommodate up to 4,000 guests and overlooks the waterfront; and a public Marina Walk with views of the San Diego Bay and two major art installations. Marina Walk also will offer bike racks and benches.

Completely renovated in 2011, the 25-story hotel has 1,260 guest rooms, the Marina Kitchen restaurant, a fitness center, The Hideaway Spa, two outdoor free-form pools, a whirlpool and a 446-slip marina. The hotel's massive meeting space expansion project is scheduled to open this summer.
