AMCAL AFFORDABLE OPENS

Earlier this month, AMCAL Multi-Housing (whose CEO Percy Vaz is at left with San Diego City Council president pro team Kevin Faulconer) held the grand opening for Mission Apartments, an 85-unit affordable community (1815-1875 Hancock St). Initially designed as market-rate condos by a previous owner, the $26M project was a public-private partnership between AMCAL, the San Diego Housing Commission (which contributed $6M), and the City of San Diego Redevelopment Agency. The speechifying included Mayor Jerry Sanders, who said the smart-growth, TOD development contributes to the diversity of San Diego's urban core and created hundreds of jobs in construction, retail, and other sectors.
