Trader Joe’s In Talks To Open Another DC-Area Store

Trader Joe’s has its eyes on more expansion in the DC area, and is in talks to open a second store in Rockville.

The California-based grocery chain has several area locations, including two in the District, several in NoVa, and one in the Federal Plaza shopping center on Rockville Pike. The company is in talks for a new store at Rockville’s Travilah Square shopping center, the Washington Business Journal reports.

Finmarc Management acquired the land in 2015, and has plans to change the landscape of the shopping center. The company recently filed a site plan amendment with the Montgomery County Planning Board, which would include the removal of two existing buildings on-site. The shopping center is at the intersection of Darnestown and Travilah roads, and has a roster of tenants that includes Title Boxing, Ledo Pizza and 7-Eleven.

Another Trader Joe’s in Rockville could be a mixed blessing for area residents. Last year, a report from RealtyTrac showed us that homeowners who live near a Trader Joe’s see greater price appreciation, but also pay higher property taxes. [WBJ]
