A new retail concept specializing in "athleisure," a mix of athletic apparel and casual clothing, is opening at the Park Potomac mixed-use complex in Montgomery County.

Gym & Tonic signed a 1K SF lease at the Foulger-Pratt-owned development and will celebrate its grand opening Thursday. It was created by Amy Block, who previously owned Miami-based fitness center Body & Soul, and Wendy Abelman, who worked for Lucky Brands.

“We created Gym & Tonic to feature the kinds of fashionable, top-of-the-line clothes that we all love to wear,” Block said in a release. “Everything we offer is stylish whether you’re at the gym in the morning or out on the town at night.”

Foulger-Pratt has built the Park Potomac development in phases since 2009. The mixed-use property at the intersection of Interstate 270 and Montrose Road includes 150 townhouses, 153 condos, 311K SF of office space and 107K SF of retail. Its retail tenants include Harris Teeter, Founding Farmers, Sugo Osteria & Pizzeria, Zoe's Kitchen, Folicori Zecchini and Elevation Burger, among others.

The development and its surrounding area also have two fitness centers, Orangetheory Fitness and Life Time Athletic, which could help draw customers to the new athletic apparel store.

The Gym & Tonic store was capitalized by private equity investor and The Meridian Group partner Gary Block, Amy's husband.
