Fairfax County wants to improve Tysons' street grid to make it a more walkable area, and it has just acquired a vacant retail building as part of that effort.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors last month acquired the former Container Store building at 8508 Leesburg Pike from a JBG affiliate for $16.6M, the Washington Business Journal reports.

The property sits less than a half-mile from the Spring Hill Metro station and the Leesburg Pike-Dulles Toll Road interchange. The county plans to use the property to create a new street connecting Leesburg Pike with Greensboro Drive.

The Ascent at Spring Hill station, a high-rise apartment building directly to the west of the property, is owned by Greystar. Clemente Development Co., the developer that has a massive Spring Hill mixed-use project planned, owns the office building directly to the east of the property at 8500 Leesburg Pike. American Real Estate Partners also owns a nearby office building, occupied by Primatics and BDO, at 8401 Greensboro Drive.
