Northeast D.C.'s Ivy City neighborhood has become a hub for breweries, wineries and distilleries, and the neighborhood has just added another craft beer producer to its roster.

City-State Brewing posted a photo on Instagram Tuesday of a lease it signed at Douglas Development's Hecht Warehouse, adding that it expects to open in spring or summer 2019.

Barred In D.C., which first reported the lease, said the company is led by James Warner, who has been home-brewing beers since at least 2016. Warner created the City-State Brewing concept and told Eater last year he was looking for a 10K SF facility that could fit a 30-barrel brewing system. The brewery lists five beers on its website: Holy Go-Go, The Brookland, Equal Marriage, Self-Determinator and 8 Wards Independent Pale Ale.

Douglas Development helped spark the transformation of Ivy City when it completed the Hecht Warehouse, a 335-unit apartment building with retail adapted from a 1930s-era warehouse. The developer owns several other properties nearby. In February, it signed Target to open a 67K SF store at the corner of New York Avenue NE and 16th Street, and it previously signed Mom's Organic Market across the street from the Hecht Warehouse.

City Winery, a winery and entertainment space, opened in April in the Douglas-owned 1350 Okie St. NE,  one block west of the Hecht Warehouse. Ivy City is also home to brewery Atlas Brew Works and distilleries Jos. A. Magnus & Co., New Columbia Distillers, Republic Restoratives Distillery, One Eight Distilling and several restaurants.

About 1 mile south in NoMa, Douglas in December signed Red Bear Brewing at its Uline Arena redevelopment. The brewery is still preparing to open.
