Details have emerged on a massive development proposal near the intersection of New York Avenue and Florida Avenue NE.

Detailed plans and renderings have been released (newer, better renderings than the old one above) in advance of a Zoning Commission hearing on Eckington Yards, a joint effort from JBG and The Boundary Cos. The huge project will slide into a 3.1-acre site bounded by Harry Thomas Way, Eckington Place and Q Street NE, and is slated to include residential, retail, and plenty of parking for both cars and bikes, the Washington Business Journal reports. Boundary Cos found John Wilkinson is going to be discussing it next month at Bisnow's Northeast DC Update in NoMa.

Plans call for 695 residential units in four connected buildings, up to 77k SF of retail with an optional mezzanine level, underground vehicle parking, and more than 200 spaces for bicycle parking. The retail space is being touted as “maker use space,” which the JV hopes will foster a sense of community among the businesses, as well as residents.

Eric Colbert & Associates has been tasked with design for the project. Eckington Yards is not far from another massive project that JBG has planned in conjunction with Gallaudet University, a 1.1M SF mixed-use development along 6th Street NE.  [WBJ]
