Mike Balaban, who co-founded SB Urban with Frank Saul III in 2013 and previously worked for Lowe Enterprises and Washington REIT, has joined another D.C. development firm.
The 30-year veteran of D.C.'s development industry is joining J Street Cos. as development executive.
At SB Urban, Balaban developed micro-unit multifamily developments. The company, which is completing its transformation of Dupont Circle's historic Patterson Mansion, has recently changed its name to Saul Urban.
Based in Georgetown, J Street has developed and managed projects in D.C., South Carolina and Texas. It is currently working on a 64-unit apartment building in NoMa, the same neighborhood it helped transform when it helped sign NPR's to its new headquarters there, which Boston Properties developed.
CORRECTION, JUNE 8, 9:45 P.M.: Balaban left SB Urban in October 2015. In 2015 he also set up msb URBAN LLC, an entity that was not affiliated with SB Urban.
JUNE 9, 10:15 A.M.: While J Street owned the land on which NPR's current headquarters now sits, Boston Properties developed the property for the radio nonprofit.
