Our list of DC real estate's top golfers is here after an exhaustive search. (We walked 18 holes, interviewing every groundhog and alligator.) In no order whatsoever, we've ID'd the industry's lords and ladies of the links.
Northwestern Mutual Real Estate's Ahmad Perry (snapped here enjoying a round at Pebble Beach) was an Academic All-American while playing at Hampton University and played on the mini-tours after college—even going through the PGA Tour's qualifying school twice. His favorite courses include Pebble, Oakmont, and 2014 US Open site Pinehurst (he grew up an hour away in Durham, NC). Athletics are in Ahmad's genes: his parents were accomplished high school basketball players, one brother played college basketball at Kentucky, and another brother ended up playing on the Hampton golf team with him. Ahmad heads up Northwestern's East region equity portfolio and says he's excited about the firm's apartment pipeline including projects in Gaithersburg (Cadence at Crown), Bethesda (Lot 31), and Tysons (Ovation).
CBRE's Dan Falls (with PGA Tour winner and native Washingtonian Fred Funk at Manor CC recently) won twice collegiately at Furman U, and like Ahmad, went to PGA Tour Q-school twice. He's competed in three USGA championships (including the '02 US Am at Oakland Hills) and currently plays to a +1 handicap at Manor. Dan, a tenant rep, says clients AceInfo Solutions, Telesis, and FI Consulting are currently active in the market.
Cassidy Turley's Eli Barnes (practicing his putting with his daughter at home) was a four-year member of UVA's golf team and played with PGA Tour pros Steve Marino and James Driscoll during his time with the 'Hoos. But even though he captained the team in '03, the modest Eli says he was a "total hack" compared to some of his teammates.
Jason and Katie Yanushonis aren't just a real estate power couple—they're also avid golfers. Jason and Katie (he a retail broker at Rappaport and she a leasing manager for Boston Properties' Reston Town Center) are members at Trump National in Sterling and say they love the great views of the Potomac while playing. Jason's had two holes-in-one and a double eagle, but says Katie once beat him in a match after she hadn't picked up a club in six months. "We are both pretty competitive, so the rides back to DC can feel pretty long depending on who wins," he says. The best of the rest?
