Newmark Knight Frank has named a new head of its D.C., Virginia and Maryland region, the third major brokerage firm to tap a new D.C. market leader in the last year.

The firm announced Monday it hired Ryan Miller from CBRE to serve as executive vice president and market leader, a newly created position to oversee NKF's D.C., Virginia and Maryland offices.

Miller began working at CBRE in 2003 as an associate and worked his way up to become managing director of global workplace solutions. He spent one year with NAI Global from January 2014 to March 2015, according to his LinkedIn page, but then returned to CBRE. In 2007, he was included in the Bisnow 35 under 35 list, with his bosses at the time predicting the then-26-year-old would become one of the region's top brokers. Now at 37, he will lead hundreds of professionals at one of the region's largest brokerage firms.

“NKF offers an entrepreneurial, accessible and nimble business model that allows us to uniquely support and evolve with our clients," Miller said in a release. "The company’s commitment to the development, integration and deployment of relevant and intuitive technology will be a differentiated resource to our team and clients, alike. It’s an exciting time to be joining this dynamic company and I look forward to working with my Mid-Atlantic colleagues to deliver innovative services for our clients."

Newmark Group went public on Dec. 15, beginning trading at $14/share. Its initial public offering was seen as underwhelming by some analysts. The company's stock has fluctuated in the first six months, and it opened Monday at $15.06/share.

The firm's decision to tap a new D.C. market leader follows JLL's announcement last week that it promoted Chris Molivadas to lead its Mid-Atlantic market. CBRE in November named Kyle Shoppmann as its new Baltimore-Washington region head.
