Metro's Big Plans

Metro's new strategic plan--code named Momentum--shows Metro is thinking big, says planning director Shyam Kannan (left).By 2025, Metro aims to have 8-car trains during all peak periods as well as a state-of-the-art communications system including high-def screens with real-time updates at stations (and better mobile payment options, too). But Shyam says for now, getting the most out of the current system is the focus, and as always, everything hinges on funding. Metro will need $26B in funds over the next 30 years to implement all the changes it outlines. Most of it will come in the form of quarters andSacajaweadollars.
