C&W’s Steve Gichner Passes Away At 50

The DC real estate community is mourning the loss of Steven Frederick Gichner, 50, who passed away Jan. 7 after battling cancer.

Steven, pictured here with C&W's Eric Berkman, was the executive director of the DC Capital Markets Group at C&W and a member of the Urban Land Institute. A 25-year veteran of DC’s commercial real estate industry, Steven stood out for his good nature and lively spirit as well as a persistent yet laid-back style that drove him to become one of the industry’s top producers.

He was involved in numerous prominent transactions in the region, including 1700 New York Ave NW, a parcel adjacent to and once owned by Corcoran Gallery of Art, which was subsequently developed into a trophy office building. More recently, Steven helped to complete the sale of the PNC and Bank of America buildings across from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue.

He began his career at Shannon & Luchs and spent time at Smithy-Braedon before moving on to Grubb & Ellis, which was his last stop before beginning his tenure with C&W. While serving with Grubb & Ellis, he was consistently one of the company’s top 20 producers nationally.

Steven is survived by his loving wife, Alexandra Gichner, and daughters Frances, Cecilia and Eliza Gichner. Memorial contributions may be made to First Descents (firstdescents.org), which provides life-changing outdoor adventures for young adults impacted by cancer.
