The Centre for Social Innovation is growing its Spadina Avenue footprint with the purchase of 192 Spadina, a 64k SF foot brick and beam building built in 1920. (It's across from its existing space.) Also known as the Murray Building, 192 Spadina currently houses 60 small businesses and organizations involved in arts, new media, and social enterprise. CSI co-founder Tonya Surman says the acquisition will enable her organization to “gradually, with a four-year window, develop the Murray building into CSI’s largest location” and ensure a long-term home for its founding members when its lease ends at 215 Spadina in 2018. With 192 Spadina offering triple the amount of its existing space, Tonya says the plan is to gradually "integrate" the two communities.
