Daniels Waterfront – City of the Arts is living up to its billing. At an event on Tuesday, The Daniels Corp announced it will contribute $3M toward public art for the community; Artscape unveiled plans for a creative incubator space within the 1.3M SF mixed-use master planned development; and OCAD University and George Brown College revealed intentions to open satellite campuses at City of the Arts. Most of the $3M Daniels is contributing for public art will be for work within City of the Arts, but one-third will fund a broader East Bayfront public art master plan. The community's 30k SF high-tech hub, Artscape Launchpad, will be a new model of creative space: part incubator, part co-working facility and part entrepreneurship centre, providing artists tools, training and resources to help build careers. OCAD says its Campus for the Connected World will be a home for learning and research in the “digital present and future.” And George Brown College notes it's “well down the path” with plans to open a state-of-the-art school of design at Daniels Waterfront.
