The Toronto Transit Commission has been named the outstanding public transit system of the year by the American Public Transportation Association.
The APTA, a Washington, D.C.-based industry organization, said the award was in recognition of the TTC’s successful implementation of a five-year modernization program. That program “demonstrates that it is a leader in the public transportation industry and a role model for other public transit systems,” APTA President and CEO Richard White said in a press release.
The TTC last won the award in 1986. The commission will be officially recognized at APTA’s annual conference later this fall.
