Stiles' Beachhead in the Carolinas

Fort Lauderdale-based Stiles, which has been busy in the Charlotte market developing sites for Publix's expansion in the market, has decided to make its presence permanent with the opening of a new office there, headed by Scott MacLaren as prez of NC operations. (The airline food was getting a bit tedious.) The new office will focus on the development and redevelopment of neighborhood shopping centers and mixed-use projects, as well as finding value-add commercial properties to buy. Scott tells us that in Charlotte's core submarkets, there are very few zoned, greenfield sites that are development ready, so infill sites will be the target. "These sites are much more complex, often involving rezoning, demolition, and sometimes structured parking due to space constraints," he says.
