Google’s next big Silicon Valley move could be downtown San Jose. Google is in talks with the City of San Jose about an office expansion that could be as big as 6M SF and bring around 20,000 jobs. City officials said Tuesday they are discussing the possibility of a mixed-use office development in the Diridon Station district, the Mercury News reports.

If the San Jose mega-campus were to become a reality, it could become the largest Google offices in the world. Currently, GooglePlex in Mountain View is the largest with 3.1M SF. Google’s plans would transform the Diridon Station, which currently consists of vacant lots, industrial buildings, a smattering of stores and small offices. Diridon Station services Amtrak, Caltrain and the VTA. A BART expansion and possibly a high-speed rail line connection also are expected sometime in the future.

Google also may buy a huge project proposed by Trammell Crow, according to the Mercury News. Trammell Crow previously proposed an 8.3-acre 1M SF tech campus. The project would include 325 apartments. The developer bought the site in 2015 for $58.5M. Trammell Crow affiliate TC Agoge spent $69M for seven properties in the area, and the company has the option to buy three more properties.

The city council will consider a staff proposal June 20 to create an exclusive relationship with Google to allow the company to buy city-owned properties.
