Sunnyvale Site Could Be Rezoned Into 100k SF Of Office Space

The site of Sunnyvale’s post office and a 21-unit apartment building (160 Aries Way) soon could be rezoned for 100k SF of office and retail.

On May 3, the Sunnyvale City Council began a study on a land-use law change, according to the Silicon Valley Business Journal. The report findings could mark the first steps toward rezoning the property.

The business and community-benefit case for rezoning 160 Aries Way into office space was made by the property's owner, the Kasik family, and its partner, ABN Property Corp, in a letter to the city. They stressed a proximity to Caltrain and stated office workers would regularly eat at local restaurants.

Many of the current crop of Silicon Valley companies have tended to “graduate” from the Valley proper to popular destinations in San Francisco, such as SoMA or the financial district. Lending Club, for example, went from Redwood City to 71 Stevenson as its head count grew. With more offices coming online south of San Francisco, more growing startups could find reasons to stay in Silicon Valley. [SVBJ]
