Hundreds Of EV Charging Stations Headed To Bay Area

There will soon be more places to charge electric vehicles throughout San Francisco and San Jose. Volkswagen will install hundreds of fast-charging stations in metros throughout California as part of its $2B settlement, the San Francisco Business Times reports. The automaker was penalized last year after it was revealed its 2.0-liter diesel vehicles were designed to cheat U.S. emission tests. Volkswagen is required to spend $800M in California.

San Jose and San Francisco will each get 350 or more charging stations that will be installed at multifamily sites, offices, commercial and retail, and municipal parking lots and garages. Volkswagen’s new subsidiary, Electrify America, will be in charge of the investment, installation and maintenance of these stations. Los Angeles, San Diego and Sacramento also are expected to receive more stations.
