The San Francisco Bay Area no longer has the highest percentage of startup jobs, reports HowMuch.net. San Francisco doesn’t even make the top 10 list with 2.2% of jobs from startups. The top spot goes to Midland, TX, with startups representing 4.7% of jobs.
Other hot areas for startups include Greenville, NC, with 4.5%, and the Panama City region in Florida with 4.3%. The top California regions are Madera, with 4.5% of jobs from startups, and Santa Rosa-Petaluma with 4%. The list also includes Victoria, TX, 4%; and Greeley, CO, Provo-Orem, UT, and Medford, OR, each at 3.9%.
Metro areas reported the most startup growth of 50.7% in 2014 compared with 40.7% in 2013, based on HowMuch’s analysis of US Census Bureau data. Startups added a total of 2.5 million jobs in 2014.
This data doesn’t necessarily mean these regions represent the most startup job growth, according to Curbed. Midland and Madera have smaller populations compared to the Bay Area, meaning 4.7% and 4.5% of jobs represents fewer people than 2.2% in San Francisco.
San Jose and San Francisco are still the top spots for tech, with San Francisco averaging three times the concentration of computer and math jobs, based on a recent Abodo report.
