When Super Bowl 50 comes to Levi's Stadium in February, San Francisco will be the heart of an eight-day party that will shut down more than two blocks of Market Street and reroute dozens of Muni lines.
Though the game is being played in Santa Clara (the first in California since 1985), the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee is planning an NFL Experience in Moscone Center North and South in downtown San Francisco and a free, public fan village by San Francisco's Ferry Building from Jan. 30 through game day on Feb. 7, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
That will mean closing down Market Street between Beale Street and Justin Herman Plaza, affecting dozens of Muni lines (even the F-line trolley). Buses will be sent instead to Mission or Howard streets, and the F-line will run from the Ferry Building to Fisherman's Wharf, but not from downtown and the Castro. The host committee also is asking that the overhead Muni power lines be taken down for the event so as not to create a hazard with larger displays (some two stories tall). The committee, made up of private and corporate donors, has raised $50M to bring the Super Bowl to Levi's Stadium. [SFC]
