This year marked the completion of several renovations that brought new life to some of San Francisco's historic properties. Bisnow gathered photos from some of the city's most beautiful renovations finished this year, including The Hibernia Bank, The Palace Hotel and Courtyard San Francisco Union Square.
1. The Hibernia Bank
The renovation of The Hibernia Bank building at One Jones Street was completed earlier this month. Dolmen Property Group, which acquired the building in 2008, brought the building up to seismic and environmental code and renovated it for adaptive reuse.
The Hibernia Bank building was designed and built in 1892 and was one of the few structures in the district to survive the 1906 earthquake and fire.
The Hibernia Bank was once home to the Hibernia Savings and Loan Society. The building has stood mostly vacant since 1985.
The 40,600 SF Mid-Market building was renovated to house office, retail, event, restaurant or other creative space.
2. The Palace Hotel
The multimillion-dollar renovation of San Francisco's The Palace Hotel was completed in October. The Luxury Collection Hotel underwent extensive renovation to guest rooms, the indoor pool, the fitness center, the lobby promenade and The Garden Court.
The 1909 Beaux Arts building is accented with wrought iron filigree work, gold leaf embellishment and angels over every doorway. The Palace Hotel was established in 1875 as San Francisco's first premier luxury hotel and replaced with the 1909 building, which was previously restored in 1989.
The Garden Court dining room was renovated into The Garden Court and GC Lounge. The GC Lounge, a gathering area, leads into the Garden Court, a 120-seat dining room.
The guest rooms retain their solid oak doors that have been at the hotel since 1909.
3. Courtyard San Francisco Union Square
The $38M renovation of San Francisco's Vantaggio Building in Union Square gave the building a boutique hotel feel when it reopened as the Courtyard San Francisco Union Square earlier this month.
The 1929 building, purchased by RLJ Lodging Trust in 2013, had most recently been used as a 150-room student housing facility. The renovation kept the high ceilings and Art Deco details.
The hotel includes flexible spaces for working and relaxing.
The renovation to the 17-story hotel also added 16 more rooms to reopen as a 166-room Courtyard by Marriott.
