Google To Offload 1.4M SF Of Office In Silicon Valley

Google is seeking to shed 1.4M SF across seven offices in Silicon Valley after pausing its vaunted development project in downtown San Jose.

Google plans to sublease offices in Sunnyvale and Mountain View, according to the San Francisco Business Times, joining a crowded sublease market.

"As we work to ensure that our real estate investments match the needs of our hybrid workforce, we're ending leases for a number of unoccupied spaces," a Google representative told the Business Times.

The latest move by Google will add to a trend of major technology companies becoming reluctant landlords in the San Francisco Bay Area. As technology companies have grown more cost-conscious in a high-interest-rate environment, they are looking to shed some real estate, especially as remote work's popularity persists.

The listings are:

  • A 317K SF office at 1020 Enterprise Way in Sunnyvale.

  • A 227K SF office next door at 1000 Enterprise Way in Sunnyvale.

  • A 192K SF office in the same complex at 1050 Enterprise Way in Sunnyvale.

  • A 26K SF research and development building at 1215 Bordeaux Drive.

  • A 190K SF office at 600 Clyde Ave. in Mountain View.

  • A 151K SF office at 620 National Ave. in Mountain View.

  • A 220K SF office at 750 Moffett Blvd. in Mountain View.

Google also announced this year that it would pause a scheduled development called Downtown West, which entailed a large amount of office space and housing near San Jose's Diridon Station, one of the largest transit centers in the Bay Area.
