If you were wondering why there was a gigantic crowd on Fifth Avenue Friday night, it wasn't because of a newly unveiled holiday window. We were among the 500 people on site for the grand opening of The Setai Fifth Avenue Hotel & Residences, a 214-key, five-star luxury hotel and condo tower at Fifth and 36th.
“It was a dream four years ago,” said Bizzi Partners' Giuseppe Rossi, whose firm developed the building. (If that's true, we need to start dreaming more significantly.) “Some people thought we were misguided... I'd say crazy. We hope this will be a new architectural landmark.” He was one of the many team members on hand, including Bizzi chairman Davide Bizzi, architect Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects, interior designer DAS Concepts, and hotel manager Capella Hotels and Resorts. Also stopping by were NYC Deputy Mayor Robert Steel, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, US Ambassador to Italy Giulo Terzi di Sant'Agata, and Deputy Speaker of the Italian House of Representatives Maurizio Lupi. The hotel suites are located on the first 30 floors, and 184 condo residences totaling 570k SF are on floors 31-60. The hotel also features a new Michael White restaurant called Ai Fiori, The Bar on Fifth, an Auriga Spa, and a Julien Farel salon.
