The new Mission Bay arena complex for the Golden State Warriors moved one step closer to completion with approval of an environmental impact report this week. Despite the vote, there is still opposition that could hinder the process.
The Mission Bay Alliance continues to oppose the project in favor of space for UCSF and supporting fledgling biotech firms in Mission Bay. UCSF came out in support of the project in October after traffic concerns were addressed in an agreement with the Warriors and the city, the San Francisco Business Times reports. The $40M transit improvement plan could expand light rail in the area.
The Warriors plan to leave Oakland for their new complex in Mission Bay in time for the 2018-2019 season. The team closed on the purchase of the 12-acre site from Salesforce.com in October. The more than $1B, privately financed complex will include offices, public plazas, restaurants and the 18,064-seat arena. Further votes to advance the plan will take place next week. [SFBT]
