The famous burger joint at 600 Van Ness closed abruptly early this year, and ever since, a chain link fence has kept intruders outside. Plans are TBA (McDonald’s has yet to file a formal proposal for developing the site), but they have started to look into the parcel's potential, having met with the planning folks last week to chat about a mixed-used project, reports SocketSite. One option: residential units over a boutique hotel and 16k SF of retail space. The McDonald’s first rose there in 1978, and the Van Ness Corridor site is zoned for development up to 130 feet in height. Plans calling for a 13-story building, a mix of senior housing over parking and a new McDonald’s, were approved and permitted for the site two decades ago, but they've since expired. [SS]
