A huge mixed-use development could soon rise up in the East Bay. Shea Properties and SCS Development Co. have plans to build a mixed-use project on 76 acres in Dublin. Bay Area developers are increasingly turning their attention to East Bay cities where more land is available and city councils more accepting of development.

Shea Properties will lead the entitlement process and manage its building. The centerpiece of the development will be a retail center and town square with walkable pedestrian greenways that connect to housing.

The plan for At Dublin also calls for a hotel, an international and independent movie theater with dining and beverages, and a retro/modern bowling alley with a specialty kitchen and signature cocktails. About 700 units of housing have been proposed. The project is expected to break ground in 2019 with occupancy beginning in 2020.

The land was owned by Jean Di Manto, whose husband, John, purchased the land through Dublin Land Co. 30 years ago. Following John’s death, Jean Di Manto wanted to continue his vision of a large retail center combined with a mixed-used development. The site is at Tassajara Road between Gleason Drive and Interstate 580 and is a 15-minute bus ride from the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station.

Retail West brokers Kent DeSpain and Hilary Parker will lead retail leasing efforts. Field Paoli Architects will design the retail center with support from Dahlin Group. SWA landscape architects also will work on the village green, walkable greenway connections and streetscapes.
