San Francisco's skyline will soon have a 42-story addition.
Trammell Crow Residential's 392-unit mixed-use project received unanimous approval from the San Francisco Planning Commission on Thursday.

The Dallas-based developer submitted its preliminary application for 95 Hawthorne St., the site of a five-story office building owned by development partner John Hancock Life Insurance Co., in 2016.
The project will consist of 199 one-bedroom units, 144 two-bedrooms and 49 three-bedrooms, as well as 55 below market-rate units, all over 3,500 SF of ground floor retail. The project architect is Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
Located in the city's Transit Center District Plan, 95 Hawthorne St. is just north of the 20-story Environmental Protect Agency Region 9 headquarters at 75 Hawthorne St., as well as several large projects underway, including Hines' 61-story tower with office, 165 residential units and a 210-room hotel under construction at 542-550 Howard St.
Construction is also underway on another Trammell Crow residential project in SoMa. The developer has broken ground on its 185-unit project at 975 Bryant St., and apartments at its 234-unit 2330 Webster St. project in Uptown Oakland began leasing earlier this month.
Designs for the tower coming to 95 Hawthorne, which will reach 444 feet, underwent a shadow study by the city's Recreation and Park Commission, which in June determined the proposed structure would not adversely affect use of nearby Guy Place Park.
