Prop F, a ballot measure intended to limit short-term rentals on platforms such as Airbnb and HomeAway, heads to the polls on Nov. 3. According to pro-home sharing campaign San Francisco for Everyone, hotel employees that support the measure could be in for a rude awakening if it passes.

Prop F seeks to limit private short-term rentals at 75 nights per year and per unit. Those that are suspected of being in violation would be subject to enforcement and private action lawsuits. Hotel union Unite Here is the biggest supporter of Prop F while the Hotel Council of San Francisco has remained neutral on the matter. San Francisco for Everyone claims that San Francisco hotels that have residential condominiums could be exposed to liability if the measure passes.

Housing advocates have also argued that short-term rentals impact the stock of monthly rentals for residents and deepens the city’s housing crisis. Home-sharing giant Airbnb has an $8.5M campaign against the measure. [SFBT]
