Zurich presents an eye-opening white paper: ?Protecting Your Vacant Building.? The research explores how to reduce the common risks and become more aware of coverage pitfalls. According to the paper, one of the side effects of the economic downturn is the increase in vacant buildings—and the increase in claims on those properties, due to hazards and crime. Many property owners don't realize that insurance coverage on vacant property does not last long (most often only 60 days). FINANCING CBRE arranged nearly $8M in financing for a 67k SF mixed-use building, Third and Jefferson, in Oakland's Jack London Square neighborhood. Thornton Tomasetti acquired the San Francisco-based sustainability consulting firm Simon & Associates, gaining a greater presence on the West Coast as well as LEED-ND capabilities. Lynn Simon, who founded the firm in 1994, will lead Thornton Tomasetti's building sustainability practice on the West Coast as an SVP.
