Pacific Union International, which lost three of its colleagues in a plane crash Aug. 5 that killed five people on their way to a real estate conference in Anaheim, has established a fund in memory of those lost and to help their families.

Victims Nasim Ghanadan, Floria Hakimi and Lara Shepherd worked together in Pacific Union's Danville office. Shepherd's husband, Scott Shepherd, a Bay Area developer, was piloting the plane. Hakimi's son, Navid Hakimi of Los Angeles, was also a passenger.

“The effects of this loss to our community, families and friends will not go away overnight,” Pacific Union CEO Mark McLaughlin said in a statement. “This difficult journey is just beginning for those left behind whose lives have been changed in profound ways.”

The Shepherds leave behind two young children, ages 7 and 5, according to Pacific Union. Floria Hakimi is survived by her son, Aden, and Navid Hakimi leaves behind a 2-year-old son. Ghanadan is survived by her parents, two sisters and a brother.

The company will donate $100K to the Pacific Union Community Giving Fund to honor those who died.

The fund will support the following funds, which are also open for donations from the community:

  • The Nasim Ghanadan Memorial Fund (the family will name beneficiaries soon).

  • The Floria & Navid Hakimi Memorial Fund (the family will name beneficiaries soon).

  • The Children of Scott and Lara Shepherd (to provide support for the general living expenses and educational needs of the children).

  • The Moyer Foundation (to provide grief counseling to children and adults affected by the loss of a child or parent).

“Today the community, family and friends of Pacific Union step forward together to embrace the future of those left behind as a result of this recent tragedy,” McLaughlin said.
