UCSF and UC Hastings College of Law might share the cost in creating new student housing the colleges would share around the Hastings campus. The deal, being worked out now, could result in building and renovating around 1,200 housing units to create a "university village" with affordable housing options for students.

Under the plan, the schools would tear down Snodgrass Hall, an academic building at 198 McAllister St, to clear the way for a new housing complex. If that project extends to Hyde Street, it could hold 970 student housing units. (The academic building will be replaced by a new building going up at 333 Golden Gate Ave, which is currently a parking lot.)

The schools also are considering renovating McAllister Tower, a 252-unit building at 100 McAllister St, shown above, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The housing would be available to Hastings and UCSF graduate students, UCSF trainees and possibly university faculty. The project, if approved, wouldn't yield new housing before 2022. [SFC]
