Multigenerational Housing Underway in Oceanside

National Community Renaissance (NationalCORE) and Community HousingWorks (CHW) has broken ground on Mission Cove, an affordable housing property for families, seniors, veterans, and transitional age youth (16-24, coming out of state custody or foster homes) in Oceanside. It’s an unusual development in that it’s following a master plan for intergenerational housing, CHW prez Sue Reynolds explaims. She says that means it will be sustainable not only in terms of green building, but also as a community. A mixture of ages in a residential property promotes stability, she says.

The development will be on 14 acres owned by the city. NationalCORE will first develop 90 units for families, veterans, transitional age youth, and seniors, along with 10k SF of retail and the Kay Parker Family Resource Center. Next, CHW will develop 138 apartments for seniors and veterans, and then NationalCORE return to add 60 more units for families, seniors, and veterans. The facility will include adult day care, senior resident services facilities, and an organic garden for residents.
