San Diego-based IDW Publishing is opening a satellite office in Portland's "burgeoning comic book scene," as the publisher puts it. The company will start a new imprint—Woodworks—out of the Portland office, which will be anchored by a "high-end, curated magazine" whose primary focus will be comics, but will also include more general entertainment items.

Woodworks will be run by the company's current VP of marketing, Dirk Wood, who is originally an Oregonian (as is CEO Ted Adams). So far, IDW Publishing doesn't have a Portland location. Earlier this year, another noted company in the field, Image Comics, decided to move its HQ to the Montgomery Park Building in northwest Portland.

IDW Publishing’s comic book and graphic novel catalog includes Transformers, My Little Pony, Star Trek, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters and Disney characters. At IDW’s core are its creator-owned comics, including 30 Days of Night, Locke & Key, Wormwood, Ragnarök, V-Wars and Archangel by science fiction author William Gibson.
