Another boutique hotel could be headed to Downtown Oakland’s anemic hospitality market. Graves Hospitality has proposed to build a Moxy Hotel, a Marriott boutique brand, at 2225 Telegraph Ave., according to Oakland planning records.
Earlier this year, a JV of Signature Development Group and Jordan Real Estate Investments said it would build a 150-room West Elm hotel at 2401 Broadway. This hotel is expected to open in 2020.
The development permit for 2225 Telegraph Ave., which was filed by Lowney Architecture, calls for the demolition of a gas station and the creation of a 67,244 SF, seven-story hotel with 173 rooms. The hotel would have a full-service restaurant on the ground floor.
This would be the Bay Area’s second Moxy Hotel. The first is expected to open in Fisherman’s Wharf in 2019. That hotel, at 1196 Columbia Ave., will have 75 rooms and will be designed by Stanton Architecture, according to SocketSite.
