Massey Knakal Realty Services co-founder and Cushman & Wakefield president of investment sales Paul Massey has filed papers with the NYC Campaign Finance Board to create the legal committee for his 2017 mayoral run.

While Paul hasn’t formally announced his candidacy, he’s been discussing his bid since March when he said he’d base his campaign on Massey Knakal’s territory system, which split the city into 50 regions with a designated broker for each region.

He’s expected to finance his campaign solely through donors and his own funds, not needing to enter the NYC public matching fund program. In January, he formed a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, 1NY Together, for fundraising, but shuttered the organization due to the controversy a similar fund caused for Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Referencing Mayor Fiorella LaGuardia, Paul says he’ll use a bipartisan team for his campaign and that he’s built up knowledge of every NYC neighborhood over the course of his 30-year career.

Founded in 1988, Massey Knakal was one of the nation’s largest privately owned commercial property brokerage firms and NYC’s top investment sales firm in volume for 14 consecutive years before being sold to Cushman & Wakefield for $100M in 2014.

Peebles Corp development head Don Peebles is also mulling a mayoral bid in 2017.
