A couple of weeks ago, we asked: What’s Extell development up to on Fifth Avenue in the Diamond District? We may now have an answer.
An indoor mall topped by apartments or a hotel is among the options Extell head honcho Gary Barnett is considering, says the New York Post.
Extell has been working on an assemblage that’s now up to 10 buildings on or just off Fifth Avenue between 46th and 47th streets. It’s a stretch of New York’s most prestigious shopping street that has lagged behind the retail prowess found just a few blocks to the north.
An office tower with a smaller retail footprint is also a possibility.
Gary made clear to the Post that decisions for the site haven’t been made yet. Demolition of some of the existing buildings starts next month. [NYP]
