HIV and AIDS organization Gay Men’s Health Crisis is moving its headquarters to a new space spanning six floors on West 38th Street.
The organization, which provides support for 12,000 people affected by HIV or AIDS every year, will take 110K SF at 307 West 38th St. starting in July.
The building is owned by management company George Comfort & Sons. The David Geffen Center for HIV Testing and Health Education, which offers free HIV testing, will remain at 223 West 29th St. GMHC's current headquarters is at Brookfield Property Partners' 5 Manhattan West.
The new location will be more accessible for clients, the statement said, and is flexible enough to accommodate the organization’s growth. It will feature a dining room to serve clients lunch four days a week and dinner once a week, as well as offices and counseling and meeting rooms.
“We’re excited to move our headquarters to a more central, accessible location that will also better accommodate our operations and the services we offer,” GMHC CEO Kelsey Louie said. “Our new offices will have an efficient, welcoming layout, enhancing our work toward ending the AIDS epidemic.”
GMHC was formed in 1981, soon after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued its first warning about a rare illness affecting gay men. It is said to be the world's first HIV and AIDS service organization and provides testing and support.
