| We snapped McCarthy Construction crews hard at work Monday on the City Performance Hall at the intersection of Routh and Flora. While it looks like a giant outdoor amphitheater at the moment, that's only temporary. The Skidmore Owings and Merrill-designed project is two stories and features a multi-purpose 750-seat theater, two flexible 200-seat theaters, art galleries, a café, a bookshop, an enclosed garden, and educational and meeting spaces. The project will provide main stage production space for Dallas' smaller performing arts orgs. The center will be built in two phases; Phase 1 includes the 750-seat hall and its support and public areas. Funding for the City Performance Hall is provided by the City of Dallas through the 2006 Bond Program. The City allocated $38.2M for the design and construction of Phase 1. The total site will be 124k SF; completion is slated for May 2012. |
