In this week’s episode, we speak to Doug Steiner, who runs the largest film and television complex east of Hollywood, Steiner Studios at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Scores of productions have been made there, including Amazon Prime's Emmy-winning show, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
The studio was closed for months but is now back open with safety protocols in place. This week, the New York City Economic Development Corp. voted to approve Steiner’s next project, a 500K SF studio in Sunset Park.
"The studios and the content creators who are our customers — there's about a dozen large, LA studios that are responsible for all the content — they have no shortage of demand. Their problem was production," he said on the podcast. "They are certainly able to pay their rent ... business is booming for them, it's just a production issue, and that doesn't worry me in terms of future vacancy or ability to collect."
