TJ Maxx Parent Plans To Accelerate Store Openings In 2027

Maxxinistas, rejoice.

The next TJ Maxx location could be coming to a storefront near you after its parent company, TJX Cos., unveiled plans to accelerate the growth of its store openings by 4% in 2027 in an earnings release on Wednesday. The discount retailer also increased its long-term global store target by an additional 500 stores to a total of 7,500 locations.

"We remain very confident in the long runway for growth ahead for TJX and we are excited about the opportunities we see to bring great values to even more consumers around the world," TJX Cos. CEO Ernie Herrman said in the release.

TJX increased its overall store count by 23 locations in the second quarter, upping its total square footage by 0.4% compared to Q1. The company has 1,359 TJ Maxx locations in the U.S., as well as 1,267 Marshalls locations.

Globally, it has just under 5,300 stores across its 137.9M SF portfolio of holdings, which also includes HomeGoods and Sierra.

The retailer has a history of major expansion plans, with Herrman saying in February 2023 that TJX planned to open as many as 1,400 new stores — without defining a timeline. TJX has increased its store count by about 500 locations since then.

Other discount retailers have also been stepping up expansion plans, with Ross Stores on track to open about 110 locations in 2026 and Burlington also planning to open a similar number of stores.
