SAN ANTONIO: A Slew Of Seniors

With a slew of seniors housing projects in the pipeline, Albuquerque-based Titan Development is betting big on the San Antonio area. (We did the same thing, except it was a horse named "San Antonio Area.") Titan Senior Living prez David Dronet tells us his firm is breaking ground on Elan Westpointe, a 113-unit assisted living project in New Braunfels, this fall. It'll be the flagship for a new model of seniors housing properties Titan will develop with LCS as the operating partner. (They're also planning communities in Austin's Southpark Meadows, San Antonio's Cresta Bella, and two other local sites.) The focus is a hospitality feel with independent-living amenities, but assisted-living lifestyle.

David tells us the team has been researching for years to come up with the model, but one of the biggest challenges was finding labor in today's hot construction market. David's particularly thrilled about launching in New Braunfels; it's a hot economy and has a beautiful geography and culture that suit the project. Plus demand is high, but there's been no recent seniors housing development. Elan Westpointe (rendered here, though they don't guarantee a holographic tree) will deliver in fall 2014. David has extra reason to be excited; he and his wife (a native Austinite) are moving back to the area from Arizona later this year.
