In the latest hacking attack to target the hotel industry, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide suffered an eight-month data breach in which hackers stole customer credit card and debit card information.
The attack affected 54 locations, including luxury properties like the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, AZ; and the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort in Bal Harbour, FL. Company systems were infected with malware that collected customers' names, card numbers, security codes, and expiration dates from hotel restaurants and gift shops, MarketWatch reports.
No word on exactly how many accounts were exposed. This news comes just days after after Starwood announced its acquisition by Marriott International for $12.2B, creating the world's largest hotel company. [MW]
