The latest Department of Homeland Security report said President Donald Trump’s border wall would cost $22B and take at least three and a half years to construct.
That price tag is nearly twice as much as the previous $12B to $15B estimates, and contrary to the president’s famous campaign promise, Trump recently said the U.S. should pay for the wall and try to get Mexico to pay us back later. Experts said a key reason for the enormous price estimate difference in the DHS report is it takes into account land the Trump administration will have to secure through eminent domain laws, ConstructionDive reports.
The report also said the administration has already moved ahead with the process by working with contractors, planning steel purchases and starting the environmental waiver process.
