The search for new digs for the FBI is slowly winding down, and the Senate has kicked in some more funds to see the project through to completion.
The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee has authorized another $759M in appropriations to help the FBI find a new home in the DC region, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The final search for a new HQ to replace the aging J. Edgar Hoover Building was announced earlier this year via an RFP. Potential sites have been narrowed down to Greenbelt, Landover and Springfield, and bidders have until June 22 to submit bids. The Senate’s vote for the new appropriations brings the total amount approved for the project to roughly $1.4B.
The FBI HQ search has been a hot button issue that has taken several turns, with some critics worrying that the GSA has unnecessarily complicated the transaction by proposing that a swap of the Hoover building be included in the final transaction.
