Anita majored in urban planning and development, and got exposed to commercial real estate interning at the redevelopment agency in Pomona. Her first job in the industry: A friend was working as an analyst at Prudential Real Estate Investors. "She got fired, but her job sounded interesting so I asked if she could set me up for an interview there for her position." Her friend not only agreed, but even prepped her for the interview. (Anita made up for it later when she moved to Lincoln Property Co and the friend was hired as an analyst.) She followed her year at PREI with stints at CBRE, Lincoln where she was an acquisitions associate for industrial and commercial properties, American Realty Advisors, where she was a due diligence manager, and HFF. She's been with M&M for a decade, partnered with Jake Roberts. What gets her up in the morning: "Ultimately, everything that you do is for your family and your children." Anita and husband Michael are on the board of the Progressive Osseous Heteroplasia Association, which is a big part of their lives. The nonprofit supports research to identify the cause and develop treatments for the condition, and ultimately seeks to find a cure. Their son suffers from the rare disease, in which bone forms in muscles and connective tissue. "Raising as much money as we can donate to cure this is really our priority in life." They also have a daughter.
