A huge machine, nicknamed Harriet, which will be used to excavate two tunnels for the Metro Crenshaw/LAX Transit Line was unveiled yesterday. The line is part of the effort to create more transit-oriented communities.
The tunnel boring machine will excavate the twin, one-mile tunnels to make way for the transit project, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.
The new $2.058B rail line will connect three, underground rail stations and serve the communities of Crenshaw, Inglewood and LAX.
The tunnel excavation is scheduled to begin this spring. The rail line is expected to open in 2019. [LADN]
