City leaders in LA and San Francisco are competing over which city will house George Lucas' proposed Museum of Narrative Art.

Both cities unveiled renderings last week of proposed designs for the project.

San Francisco is so serious about the prospect of getting the museum, City Supervisor Jane Kim is expected to introduce a resolution this week in support of the proposed museum being built on Treasure Island.

Plans were filed yesterday with the LA Department of City Planning to build the proposed, five-story museum at 3800 Vermont Ave, Urbanize LA reports.

Both San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and LA Mayor Eric Garcetti support having the museum built in their respective cities.

The proposed building would be designed by Ma Yansoung of MAD Architects, the LA Times reports.

It would have between 265k SF and 275k SF of interior space, with 100k SF set aside for art galleries.

There would also be two surface parking lots along Vermont Avenue.

Lucas would pay the museum's hefty $1B price tag himself.

Previous plans for George Lucas to build a museum overlooking the San Francisco Bay or one in Chicago fizzled after facing local opposition. [LAT]
