Neighborhood Integrity Initiative Gets Enough Signatures For March Ballot

A group of activists has delivered the necessary signatures to get the Neighborhood Integrity Initiative, the anti-megadevelopment measure, on the March ballot.

The group submitted 104,000 signature to the LA City Clerk's office last week.

That's 67% more than the 62,000 signatures needed, the LA Business Journal reports.

The Neighborhood Integrity Initiative would enforce a two-year moratorium on big developments, banning most “spot zoning" and other amendments.

Many developers and civic leaders are part of a coalition opposing the initiative.

The backers of the Neighborhood Integrity Initiative, spearheaded by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, had given LA Mayor Eric Garcetti an ultimatum the week before, but no deal was reached.

Now the measure must be officially certified, which could happen next month unless the LA City Council chooses to enact provisions of the measure within 30 days. [LABJ]
